About Us

Smt. Narsabai Mahila Mandal is a non-profit making voluntary organization established in 1985 and registered under the Society Registration Act of Maharashtra and the Bombay Public Trust Act. Key objective of the Mandal is the empowerment of under privileged girls and women in the remote villages in Latur and Nanded district in the state of Maharashtra. All the seven members in its Executive Committee are women. The organization runs the following projects/ programs:-

Shishu Greh
the adoption centre, provide care, protection, food, clothing and shelter to destitute and orphan children in the age group of 0- 6 years. Shishu Greh with an intake capacity of 10 children is a Licensed Adoption Placement Agency authorised to place children for in-country adoption. The children are well looked after for their medical, nutritional and recreational needs. Motherly care and love is provided to the children by the Child- care workers as well as other staff members of the organization. Four Child-Care workers work in two shifts to look after the children. There is a doctor on a regular basis as well as a visiting pediatrician attending to the medical care of the children. During the year 2005-06, we could place three children under Adoption and four children under pre adoptive foster care. One child is rehabilitated by reuniting him with his biological parent. Birthdays of the children and national festivals like Children’s day, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, Independence Day, Republic Day, and Maharashtra Day are celebrated in the Shishu Greh. The institution also celebrates Adoption Awareness week during 14-20th November. Programs for adopted parents, parents seeking adoption, doctors, advocates and social workers are conducted during this week for awareness generation.

The social workers and the child- care workers have undergone in-service training arranged by training institutes like YASHADA, and Agencies working in the field of Adoption such as Catalysts for Social Action (CSA). They also receive regular in-puts from Adoption Co-ordination Agency.

Short Stay Home
Girls and women under crisis are provided with food, shelter and clothing in the short stay home. The beneficiaries are rehabilitated by providing vocational training and support for Income Generation activities. Counseling service is also provided for them to come out of the psychological trauma they had experienced before taking shelter in the institution. Counseling also helps them to gain confidence and self esteem.

Watershed Development and Water Conservation Program
Five villages in Latur and Nanded Dist. in the state of Maharashtra are selected to implement this scheme. The villages are selected as they are drought prone areas.
