The Orissa Project

Catalysts for Social Action, had last year, initiated an experiment in Marathawada to examine whether parents from metro cities, were willing to adopt children from non-city agencies. Our objective was to find homes for 121 waiting children. The results were phenomenal; with the help of the State Government, we were able to transfer 15 older children into agencies that could place them. We also, facilitated more than 35 placements in the span of about 10 months. Significantly, the placements happened in metro locations such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai completely negating the oft-touted myth that city parents are reluctant to adopt from non-metro agencies.

Encouraged by the success of Latur, we have now moved into the State of Orissa where, working jointly with the WCD, Orissa State and the ACA, Orissa, we are targeting the placement of approx. 150 children. We have launched an extensive promotional programme through outdoor hoardings in Kolkatta and shall soon follow this up with similar initiatives in Orissa and other neighbouring cities/towns.

This website aims primarily at making available, information on the participating agencies and their waiting children, Our hope is that suitable childcare facilities and short, processing cycles will motivate waiting parents both in Orissa and neighbouring states, to make a considered decision to choose to work with those agencies.
