About Us

NEHRU SAVA SANGH (NSS) was established in 1946 , at Banpur in Orissa by late Shri. Sansth Harihar ramji to render social service to the poor and down – trodden people of Orissa affected by extreme poverty and illiteracy. It serves as a beacon light for the poor people of Orissa . The Sangh is running various projects and programmes to come to the rescue of the people in distress.

Programmes undertaken by Nehru Sava Sangh are as given below:-


(1) Child Welfare

(2) Welfare of the Disabled

(3) Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes

(4) Empowerment of Women

(5) Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation of people in distress.

(6) Socio-Economic Survey and Research

(7) Cultural Development

(8) Human Resource Development


Objectives of the organization.

1 To help orphans, backward people, tribes, handicapped juvenile delinquents and such other destitute and to work towards their development.

2 To promote and run training institutes, especially to promote cottage industries.

3 To organize and train volunteer corps for emergency social service during natural calamities.

4 To organize children groups on the line of ‘Balchar Organization’.

5. To establish and maintain hospitals and provide treatment.

6. The promotion of education in all its aspects

7 To disseminate progressive ideas and cultural associations

8 To enlighten men and women about their fundamental rights and duties of citizenship.

9. To establish mutual relationship among groups within India and abroad.

10.To carry on publishing work with the purpose of the spread of true and cheap education.

11 To work for the spread and dissemination of social and moral hygiene.

12 To work for the improvement of labourers.

13 To organize groups for spreading knowledge and ideas regarding family planning.

2. Welfare of the Disabled

a) Care, Maintenance, Education, Industrial and Musical Training to the Physically Handicapped
b) Training in fine arts
c) Vocational Training for adults with hearing impairment.
d) Residential Institute for the visually challenged.
e) Community Based rehabilitation program for the visually challenged. f) Integrated Education for the disabled.
g) Welfare of the physically challenged.
h) Services to mentally challenged people.
i) Recreational Facilities for children and adults.

3. Welfare of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes(ST)

a) Hostel for Tribal Children
b) Residential School for the scheduled Castes
c) Coir Craft Training to Scheduled Caste Youth
d) ‘Agarbati’ (incense stick) making training to women
e) Comprehensive Development Program for S.C& S.T
(Irrigation and Drinking Water facility)


4. Empowerment of Women

Training in Coir making was given to 24 women in collaboration with Rotary club of Banpur – Balugaon .Various Coir articles were taught to them.

5. Emergency Relief

a) During the natural calamities NSS comes to the rescue to the affected people and provide relief materials.
b) During traditional festivals of Panchdola and Rath Yatra, NSS provides drinking water to the missing children and provide first aid to needy
c) In winter, blankets/quilts were distributed to the poor, ailing, leprosy patients and deserving people. Blankets, and cloths were distributed to the needy people of tribal village of Mahulia and at Banpur.

6. Rehabilitation

a) NSS renders service in the flood and drought affected areas of Kakat pura , Astaranga, and Nimpada in Puri and Kalahandi district respectively.
b) The emphasis is given to the aspects of housing, agriculture, drinking water, cottage industries and awareness generation.
c) Social and Economic rehabilitation is given to disabled persons within their respective community.

7. Socio-Economic Survey and Research

a) Socio-economic survey was conducted in Puri and Kalahandi districts.
b) Survey on disabled was conducted in Bhawanipatna,Kesinga,Junagarh ,Narla and Madanpur –Rampur blocks of Kalahandi district.
c) Survey was undertaken for rehabilitation of poor widows in Banpur and Bhawanipatna block.

8. Cultural Development

a) Regular teaching in dance and music was imparted to the disabled along with the normal children.
b) Occasionally take a part in cultural programs.
9. Human Resource Development

a) NSS runs an Industrial Training Center (ITC) recognized by the National Council for Vocational training, Govt. of India at Banpur since 1996 to impart training in 1) Stenography 2) Cutting and Sewing (for women) and 3) Cane willow & Bambo work.
b) The trainees appear the AITT Examination
c) Steps are being taken for inclusion of more trades like Food and Vegetable Processing, Fitter, Welder, Computer Technician etc. in future.

Shishu Greh

Shishu Greh (Home for the Infants) has been running at Paramanadapur, Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district with support of Center Adoption Resource Agency (CARA) , Govt. of India since January, 2004 with a view to promote In country adoption to the abandoned relinquished and orphan children. Such children require parental love, care for their wholesome growth and development both physically and mentally. In order to provide a family environment 0-6 years old children are taken care of in the Shishu Greh.NSS has been licensed by Govt of Orissa, W & CD Deptt. For promoting in – country adoption bearing No.15 dt .19/04/2007.
