Amita Dhanda & Geeta Ramaswamy
July 2005
The practice of Inter-country Adoption, an inherent feature of Adoption in India,
has been widely debated particularly in the context of child trafficking, instances
of which have surfaced from time to time. Amita Dhanda and Geeta Ramaswamy
have worked on a socio-legal investigation of Inter-country adoption from the
Child Rights perspective. Their report comes in 3 parts.
Part 1 deals with the regulatory system and Guidelines evolved by the Supreme
Court of India, for ICA in India.
Part 2 describes the findings emerging from their research; 2 Psychological
studies conducted on Indian Adoptees in USA and Sweden detail the
psychological impact of ICA. A separate section presents the Adoptees’
versions through first person narratives.
Part 3 carries an analysis of the findings of the study and makes
recommendations. |
