Internalizing CSA - Reconstitution of the Managing Committee

In April 2005, the CSA Managing Committee was reconstituted to induct four senior employees at the level(s) of VP/ Sr. VP, from Kale Consultants. The first meeting of the reconstituted Managing Committee was held in July 2005.



Presentation to Kale Employees

Presentation(s) on CSA, were made to Kale employees in Pune, Mumbai (MPS and ESS) and Delhi Offices in August/ September ’05. The presentation was mailed to Kale international Offices. Response was very encouraging. Donations of Approximately Rs 2.5 Lakhs were received from the Kale employees. Also, the events led to large- scale volunteer participation.



Working group to Formulate Training programs


A working group was constituted to draw up training programs for childcare workers and social workers from adoption agencies. The members included child development specialists, academicians from SNDT University, trainers from Mobile Crèches and representatives from 3 adoption agencies in Pune.





The Latur Pilot


In keeping with CSA objectives which aim at both, enhancing the number of adoptions and improving the quality of child care in the agencies, CSA launched its pilot initiative in Latur. A group of 7 agencies have been selected for the pilot. CSA has taken on full-fledged up gradation of one agency and support to others. The up gradation efforts include improving Health and Hygiene, Infrastructure, Child care/ child development - provision of specialized Childcare worker and a teacher, respectively, Training to child care and social workers, facilitation such as playpen, solar heater, medical equipments, music systems, uniforms to child care workers, toys and provisions etc.. CSA will also work towards placing all the children in the identified agencies through local references, references by the VCAs/ other adoption agencies in Maharashtra or, transfers with the permission of the State government to agencies which have waiting parents and that can place the children.

To achieve the objective, CSA have worked out an extensive promotional campaign in Latur. Some of the events already completed are as follows:

  - A workshop for Aparents and social workers.

  - A sensitization program for the police, media, judiciary and government officials.

  - A childrens event where children from all participating agencies have assembled for a day of fun and games.

All the events have been completed with the participation of the local community.

Initiatives in the pipeline are as follows:

  - A training program for the child care workers scheduled to be held on the 3rd March 2006.

  - A Training program for social workers will be conducted.

  - A one-page supplement on adoption to be released in Lokmath, the most widely read local daily.

Adoption Awareness Week

The 14th November week is declared as Adoption Awareness Week (AAW) by CARA. Several Adoption stakeholders celebrate the week primarily to generate interest and create awareness. CSA have, for the last 3 years since our inception, been using the AAW to promote the Adoption cause. The November 2005 celebrations included the following:

  - Workshop

     The 2-day Parenting Workshop for adoptive parents was organized jointly by with the Voluntary Coordination
     Agency (VCA), Pune. This workshop held on the 12th and 13th November, 2005, was inaugurated by Mr. D. V.
     Marathe, Joint Commissioner for Women and Child Welfare, Government of Maharashtra.

     The speakers included:

        - Dr. Nilima Mehta - Keynote Address

        - Dr. Rani Raote - Become a Whole Parent

        - Dipika Maharajsingh - The Search for Roots

        - Dr. Shobha Shrinath - Expectations and Realities

        - S. Shankar - Adoptive Relationships


   - A one-day event was organized in Pune on the 12th November 2005 for children from 8 Pune adoption agencies.
     The Event was held at YMCA, Quarter Gate. About 50 children spent a gala day out in activities that included
     bouncy castle, a pop-corn stall, a tattoo stall, a puppet show and musical chairs.


   - A one-day event was organized in Mumbai on the 14th November 2005 for children from ... participating agencies
     and, Mobile Crèches. The event was held at Bengal Club at Shivaji Park. About 60 children had a fun-filled day
     with the moonwalker and jumping jack, a huge treat with candyfloss and popcorn, a magic show and a fancy
     dress competition.

   - Senior Kale Employee in UK undertakes a cycle trek

     Peter O’Sullivan VP Cargo Solution, Kale UK, marked his 50th birthday by cycling from the Southern tip of Ireland
     to the Northern tip- about 710 kilometers. He completed this on 7 consecutive days. Peter raised 640 Pounds,
     which he donated to CSA.

   - Pune Marathon

     The Pune International Marathon focusing on “Race against AIDS’, was run on Sunday 04 Dec2005. CSA participated
     in the Run for Charity.

   - Mumbai Marathon

     The Stan chart- Hutch Marathon was held in Mumbai on the 15th January. CSA participated in the marathon.

   - NASSCOM 2006 Leadership Summit

     For the first time, NASSCOM ran a parallel track on Corporate Social Responsibility at the NASSCOM 2006
     Leadership Summit held on the 15th February 2006. On the occasion NASSCOM release a publication highlighting
     the innovative and impactful work being done by NASSCOM members for the community as a part of their CSR
     programs.

     The publications included case studies that represent particularly good examples of investing in the community
     and would encourage other member companies to become more involved in this area. CSA found a place in the
     publication.
