Foreign Agencies
Foreign Agencies desirous of undertaking adoptions from India, must first must apply to India's Diplomatic Missions and be enlisted with CARA. It is the Agency's responsibility to ensure that Laws of the Land and the procedures applicable to the country of location, are adhered to; the child must acquire the same status, rights and nationality as the adoptive parents in the applicable country within a maximum period of 2 years.
A foreign agency generally can have a direct relationship with one or more, listed agencies in India.The foreign agency is responsible for ensuring the eligibility and suitability as per the CARA Guidelines , of the referred adoptive parents.
49 Enlisted Foreign Agencies in over 30 countries have been recognised by CARA.
Lists of foreign agencies as also, the CARA Guidelines on Adoption, are available with the Indian Diplomatic Missions in the respective countries.
