The Orissa Children’s Orphanage is a charitable organization which started in the year of 1966. OCO was registered under Societies Registration Act the following year. There are approximately 24 children, in the age group of 1.5 to 18 years. 9 of the children are below 6 years of age. Run entirely with the assistance of public donations, the face of the organization is one Mr. Anthony -an elderly individual who in fact, started the orphanage.
The prevailing condition in the orphanage is rather pathetic with very poor health and hygiene standards.
There is scope to work, through the WCD, Orissa State Government, towards moving the children below 6 years into adoption. Legal clearance by the CWC and permission by the WCD, will facilitate transfers of the children into adoption agencies that can place them. In due course, we could work towards declaring the orphanage as an adoption agency with government subsidy.
An offer of ongoing support has been made to the organization.
