Self Realisation Mission (SRM) is a CARA-registered Specialized Adoption Agency situated at Trilochanpur, Anandapur, Dist: Keonjhar in the state of Orissa. When CSA began its association with SRM in 2008, the agency had only just applied for a license for adoption.  CSA handheld the agency and facilitated its progress towards becoming a model agency- adhering to regulation while also, providing a high quality of professional care to the children.

Setting-up Office
CSA provided model documents collected from well established agencies including formats, forms, registers etc. We also, donated a computer with internet connections encouraging them to use the computer system to create and maintain records.

Child Care
As a new agency SRM did not even have knowledge of proper child care methods and standards in terms of nutrition, health, hygiene, recreation, etc.  In fact, the prevailing conditions, reflecting on the quality of childcare was sometimes a deterrent for parents (particularly those from other cities) to adopt. CSA supported SRM in kind by supplying baby food, clothes, winter wear and play tools. We prescribed the diet and trained childcare workers on care of the children particularly those who were deprived of parental care from the start  of their lives. We also, provided for emergency care where hospitalisation was necessary.  

Infrastructure
CSA arranged for water supply providing a bore well with motor ensuring the supply of water across the agency. We also, constructed a toilet for the children.

Capacity building & promotion
CSA offers

1. ongoing capacity building and skill development programmes to the Key functionaries in the agency- Social and Child care workers.
2. Awareness programme for grassroot (Anganwadi) workers at the District level .
3. Support for appointment of professional social worker etc.

Placement facilitation
The most significant success factor for an adoption agency is its ability to place the children with good families. Encouraging prospective parents from cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Kolkatta, to adopt from rural agencies, CSA directed several such parents to SRM. The results were and continue to be phenomenal! In 3 years, 7 placements were directly facilitated by CSA. Word- of- mouth publicity brought several other parents to SRM, leading to the placement of  more than 35 children.

CSA provides regular pre/post-adoption counselling for SRM. CSA is in constant touch with the agency and monitors its progress. SRM is emerging as a model adoption agency not only in Orissa but also in India.

Achievements
SRM is one of the most well-run agencies not only in Orissa but also, in India. The number of placements have been significant and the processing timelines have been less than 6 months. The childcare standards are good and malnutrition is not seen in any of the children. Consequently, the health standards have been good too.
