Support to Destitute Homes/Orphanages (2008-09)



MAHARASHTRA

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Udyog Kendra, Yerwada, Pune

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Udyog Kendra(PJNUK) is a home for the care and protection of Boys, in Pune, Maharashtra. PJNUK has 130 children from age 7 to 18; some of them are children in conflict with the law. CSA supports a Computer Center with 8 work stations, in PJNUK. We provide for a part-time teacher. The 3rd batch of training is currently on; some of the students will appear for the MS-CIT exam. CSA also, provides academic coaching for students of the 10th standard.

Government Observation and Special Juvenile Home for Girls, Mundhwa, Pune

State Home for Girls, is a shelter for destitute women, orphans, women rescued under The PITA Act, and harassed women. Located at Mundhwa, in Pune, Maharashtra, the Home has 101 girls from 15 to 18 years of age. The inmates are allowed to stay in this balgruh upto the age of 18 years.

CSA started Functional Literacy for the girls. In addition, Art classes are conducted. Cushion- making, mehendi, Jari work, crochet work, etc. are some of the income-generating skills on which the girls have been trained. We have also, organized sessions on Life skills, Health and hygiene and legal awareness. The objective is both, to create awareness and, enable self-employment for them in future. CSA also, provided School uniforms, clothes and under-garments to the girls.

Saraswati Anath Sikshan Ashram, Pune

SASA in Pune, Maharashtra, is a private orphanage established in Dec. 1995.There are 42 children both male and female in the age group of 3-18 years. Most of the children are orphans; some have a single parent while others have relatives who don’t want them. CSA has assisted SASA with some of its civil work; an additional bathroom and toilet was provided. Also, the sanitation has been improved.4 children have been admitted into the nursery class of a nearby English Medium school. CSA will pay for their schooling. In addition, back-up teaching support at home has been arranged.
Boy’s Observation Home

Boy’s Observation Home is located in Shivaji nagar, Pune. The Home has 191 boys in ages ranging from 7 to 16 years. 120 children are school-going. CSA supports the 8th, 9th and 10th standard students for extra coaching classes. We also, conducted sessions on Health, hygiene and cleanliness. We take care of the medical expenses of one child who needs special medical care.
ORISSA AGENCIES

Orissa Children’s Orphanage (OCH), Bidanasi, Cuttack

OCH, Cuttack is an orphanage with about 50 children of varying ages. Some of the children are orphans. Others do have a family but lack parental care.

CSA has started providing ongoing supplementary nutritional support for all the children. Clothes, toys, educational aids, Sweaters & Blankets were also, provided. A music system along with Oriya, English and Hindi rhyme CDs has also, been given.

4 children have been admitted into the nursery class of a nearby English Medium school. CSA will pay the tuition and other fees and arrange for support-books, uniform, shoes, tuitions, tiffin, transport, etc.

Jasoda Anathashram, Kalahandi, Orissa

Jasoda Anathashram is an orphanage situated at Gambhariguda village of Kalahandi district, Orissa. There are more than 45 children from infants to teenagers. Lack of potable water, electricity, space, are some of the many difficulties that the orphanage faces. Untrained staff and lack of awareness about health and sanitation add to the difficulties. The childcare is very poor.

CSA has provided support for Construction of one more storey of the building. Clothes, toys, educational aids, Sweaters & Blankets were also, provided.A music system along with Oriya, English and Hindi rhyme CDs have been provided by CSA.

4 children have been admitted into the nursery class at a nearby English medium school. CSA will pay the fees, arrange for transport, support the children’s tiffin and provide back-up support in the form of a tutor who will augment the school-learning.


Pallishree Mahila Samiti (Orphanage), Korua, Kendrapada

Pallishree Mahila Samiti is a registered society at Korua Block, Head quarter of Kendrapada district, Orissa. Its Orphanage (Destitute Home) was established in October 1977. Orphans, distressed, abandoned, relinquished destitute girls from allover the state is looked after.

CSA provided two computers for vocational training to the orphanage. Currently the inmates are learning computer education with some out side students too. Very soon the agency is going to organize DCA examination for the students.

Nehru Seva Sangh (Orphanage), Bhawanipatna, Kalahandi

Nehru Seva Sangh (NSS) was established at Banpur in the year of 1946. The Orphanage at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district was started in the year 1978 with a sanctioned strength of 100 orphan and destitute children. All most all of the inmates receive education in local schools/colleges.

One computer training centre at the agency campus has been started by CSA. CSA provided two new computers including salary for a part time computer teacher at the centre. Currently 14 inmates (girls) are pursuing Diploma in Computer Application (DCA) course at the centre.
